CYCLE Speedway’s Home Nations competition took place last week and Suffolk were proudly represented by a total of seven riders across the two events on the day, the junior and senior competitions.

England, Scotland, Ireland and Scotland all rode against each other in a four team tournament for each title, England retaining their senior crown comfortably, whilst the Welsh side won the junior competition in a shock result.

Dan Chambers, 17, was the leading light, making his debut for the full England side and scoring a very respectable 13 points from 4 rides. Dan, who is signed on for Norwich in the local league, but Ipswich in the Premier League, is looking to make his first appearance of the season for the Suffolk=based side this weekend against Horspath after being unavailable so far.

Jordan Stant made his debut for the junior England side and scored a well earned 5 points from 2 rides. Jordy rides with as much passion as he does skill and deserved the call up as much as anybody. An Ipswich lad, his Dad Tony is also Ipswich’s team manager, so it was a proud day for the family.

Lewis Roberts, Charlie Rumbold (both Ipswich) and Patrick Kruger (Colchester) all represented Ireland in the junior match, and battled manfully despite their relatively tender ages. Rumbold was the pick of the bunch, scoring strongly and continuing his impressive start to the season.

Finally, the popular Barry Copping (Ipswich) rode for Ireland in the senior tournament, and will have been pleased to add to his burgeoning tally of caps, whilst Jason Barker (Ipswich and Norwich) got stuck in, competing in his first Home International.

Ipswich race in the Premier League at home this Sunday and will be hoping their riders in action here can take their form into that match.
