Colchester United were held to a draw at Conference club Dover Athletic in their latest pre-season game tonight.
The U’s fell behind after just four minutes, with Stone on target for the Kent hosts, who had clinched promotion to the fifth tier last season.
But Sammie Szmodics levelled by converting Gavin Massey’s cross, at the second attempt, and Josh Thompson then headed home George Moncur’s corner, just before half-time, to give the U’s 2-1 lead.
However, the visitors were denied victory when Elder slotted home a 78th minute equaliser.
The U’s are in action again tomorrow, when they take on Dagenham & Redbridge in another pre-season game at Victoria Road (kick-off 3pm)
U’s squad: Walker, Olufemi, Okuonghae, Thompson, O’Donoghue (sub Clohessy, 83), David Wright, Moncur, Drey Wright (sub vose, 83), Szmodics, Massey, Ibehre (sub Watt, 60).
