Colchester United’s man-of-the-moment, Sammie Szmodics, can’t wait for the visit of high-flying MK Dons tomorrow evening.

The Dons thrashed the U’s 6-0 in Milton Keynes last November, and remain automatic promotion candidates despite a surprise defeat to Gillingham last weekend.

But teenager Szmodics, who tucked home his fourth goal of the season with a second minute opener at Oldham on Saturday, to secure a 1-0 win, is ready for the challenge.

“The boys are buzzing after this result, going into the MK Dons game on Tuesday,” insisted Szmodics, following his winner at Boundary Park.

“Our heads are high and this game cannot come soon enough.

“MK Dons are up there, but then Oldham were fifth in the league as well, so who knows what can happen?” added Szmodics.
