There are just seven games in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division this weekend, with the Norfolk-based clubs involved in that county’s senior cup competition – and three of those remaining matches involve local teams playing at home, writes Phil Griffiths.

Brantham Athletic, at the leisure centre looking for a seventh straight win, host a rejuvenated Godmanchester Rovers who themselves are on a six match winning run.

Both sides have scored 17 goals in their runs so something has to give - they sit fourth and fifth in the table respectively, with the hosts holding a two-point lead, having played one game less.

Hadleigh United, too near the foot of the table for comfort, host Haverhill Rovers as they look to halt a four match losing run in the league and six games in all competitions.

But they have scored just two goals in nearly ten hours of football and need to start finding the opposition net while tightening up defensively, having shipped five goals in midweek.

Ipswich Wanderers, who played out a goalless draw in midweek, ended a run of three straight defeats with that result at Wivenhoe and new manager Mark Benterman will be looking to go one better when Saffron Walden visit Humber Doucy Lane.

Walden lost heavily last week and haven’t looked impressive on the road with just one win, but Wanderers will need to be at their best if they are to start climbing the table.

Long Melford face a difficult task at home to Stowmarket Town, who are on a six match unbeaten run, and scoring goals for fun. Ipswich Town ended any aspirations the villagers had in the Suffolk Premier Cup in midweek, while Stow scored five in the league at Hadleigh on Tuesday evening.

The majority of Division One sides are involved in the Suffolk Senior Cup, with just five league games scheduled, the most prominent being Framlingham at home to AFC Sudbury Reserves.

The Castlemen, unbeaten in the league, start the day in fourth place and can make inroads into the five-point gap between themselves and the top three as they use up one of their games in hand.
