Former Ipswich Town skipper Terry Butcher has heralded the arrivals of midfield duo Tom Adeyemi and Emyr Huws.

Adeyemi has joined as a free agent after leaving Cardiff City, while fellow Bluebird Huws was allowed to leave the Welsh club by manager Neil Warnock, and has signed a four-year deal at Portman Road.

Huws impressed enormously during a loan spell with the Blues last season, whilst Adeyemi caught the eye as a stand-out player for relegated Rotherham United, scoring seven times in 28 games.

Town currently have Teddy Bishop, Luke Hyam, Kevin Bru, Andre Dozzell and Cole Skuse as their central midfield options, while Grant Ward can also play there, the Blues having released Giles Coke and Jonathan Douglas, and seen Toumani Diagouraga return to parent club, Leeds United.

“I am obviously delighted that Town have been able to bring Huws in as he is a big part of the plans and could provide a bit of a spark as well. He is a player that gets fans excited,” explained Butcher

“As for Tom Adeyemi, I was interested in him a good few years ago when I was managing in Scotland.

“He is a player I like, he is a box-to-box midfielder, who is strong and gets stuck in.

“It is good that Town have got two midfielders in, although I think they still need another one in there to add strength in depth.”

Meanwhile, Ipswich’s bitter rivals, Norwich City, have made an official enquiry for ex-Blues striker, Daryl Murphy, according to the Northern Echo.

Murphy scored seven times in 26 games for Newcastle last season, having moved to the North East from Portman Road in August, but has been told by Magpies’ boss Rafa Benitez that he is not part of his plans as the club prepare for a return to the Premier League.

Newcastle are thought to be looking to recoup a big chunk of the fee they paid Ipswich and Norwich could return for the man they targeted two years ago, before the Republic of Ireland international signed a new contract with the Blues.

Last week, Blues boss Mick McCarthy said it was highly unlikely the Blues would be able to bring Murphy back to Portman Road, given his salary at Newcastle, and suggested his former club Sunderland, for whom the frontman also played, should take a punt on the Waterford-born hitman.
