Colchester United received a boost today, with experienced centre-half Tom Eastman signing a new contract.

Eastman’s current deal expired this summer, but the 24-year-old former Ipswich Town defender has signed a new one-year package for 2016-17.

Eastman has rattled up 197 appearances for the U’s, 179 in the league, since his move from Portman Road in the summer of 2011.

He played every minute of every game in 2014-15, and only missed three league games last season.

Eastman will be looking to make an impact this season, in League Two, with summer signing Luke Prosser, plus youngsters Frankie Kent and Alex Wynter, also centre-half options for new manager John McGreal.
