Suffolk junior rider Hugo Robinson, fresh from his national cyclo-cross championship win in Ipswich last weekend, managed a top 20 finish in the seventh round of the World Cup in France today.
The Debenham teenager was 18th in a strong field at Lievin, less than two minutes behind the winner, Dutchman Mathieu Van Der Poel.
Robinson, sole British rider in the race, now lies 15th in the overall World Cup standings with one round to go at Hoogerheide in the Netherlands next Sunday.
The Elmy Cycles/XRT rider then travels to Koksijde in Belgum for the World Championships the following weekend.
Britain’s Helen Wyman, the national women’s champion, had a strong race in Lievin to finish fifth behind winner Marianne Vos, while Nikki Harris was seventh. Wyman is now seventh in the overall standings.
