A milestone in the building of a new ground for Essex County Cricket Club was celebrated by club officials, players and guests.
A topping out ceremony was held as the final concrete ceremonial slab was laid, with Sandra Pontin, Chelmsforddeputy mayor, pouring beer on it.
Work will now continue inside the block of flats.
Club chief executive Derek Bowden said: “This an important moment in the recent history of the club. We want to have a top class ground and the completion of phase one is a key part of that process.”
