CARLING Cup hopefuls Ipswich Town and Colchester United met with vastly different fortunes when the second round draw was made.

Ipswich, having disposed of Coca-Cola League One side Brentford 2-0 at Portman Road on Tuesday night, dropped a league further down when they were paired with last season's Conference champions Doncaster Rovers.

Town boss Joe Royle's hopes for another home draw were dashed when Town came out of the hat second and will have to make the journey to South Yorkshire during the week beginning September 20.

Royle said, "It's a shame we did not get the home draw we were hoping for. This will not be an easy task for us but we will be taking the game in all seriousness because it is a competition we would like to win."

Colchester fared much better, landing Premiership opposition at home as a reward for their 2-1 victory over Cheltenham on Tuesday They will entertain Premiership new-boys West Brom.

League One side Grimsby, who eliminated Championship leaders Wigan from the competition last night, are at home to Charlton while Lincoln have a trip to St Andrews to face Birmingham.
