COLCHESTER United left-back Phil Ifil felt that the U's were simply “not good enough” on the night to upset their Championship hosts.
Despite Steven Gillespie's marvellous late chip, which set up a nail-biting finale for Ipswich, Ifil admitted that the U's had given themselves too much to do.
Ex-Tottenham trainee Ifil said: “We're disappointed to have given Ipswich two goals. I thought we did OK, but we were just not good enough.
“We should have done better than that. I thought we should have attacked the game sooner.
“We had four or five chances, and two good ones near the end. But conceding those two goals was our downfall.
“However, we have a big game against Oldham Athletic on Saturday. Oldham have started the season well and we've sight our sights on them already.
“On a personal note, it was good to get 90 minutes under my belt. I don't mind playing as a left-back. The manager brought me in as a full-back, and I'm trying to improve the attacking side of my game as well,” added Ifil following the 2-1 defeat.
