WATTISHAM Airfield hosted its first off-road sprint triathlon, with both civilians and members of the military in action.

The Wattisham Airfield Triathlon comprised a 300m swim, a 12km off-road cycle ride and a 5km run.

The event raised money for Wattisham SSAFA - “Forces Help - the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association” - which is a national charity helping serving and ex-service men, women and their families in need.

Gareth Pym was the quickest overall in 53mins 22secs, and there were prizes for all the various age category winners.

These included two members of Ipswich Triathlon Club, in Amanda Mallett (40-44 years) and Maria Reynolds (50-54 years).

In the older age groups, there were wins for Woodbridge Shufflers' Michael Chaplin (60-64 years) and Ipswich Jaffa's John Weston (50-54 years).
