IPSWICH Town defender David Wright today admitted that the players are letting down manager Jim Magilton.

After Saturday's 4-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion the Blues dropped down the Coca-Cola Championship table like a stone having begun the day in a play-off place.

It was their second successive defeat having lost 2-0 at Watford a fortnight earlier, and although Ipswich dominated most of the second half at The Hawthorns it is still a worrying time for Blues fans hoping against hope for a successful campaign.

The experienced 27-year-old Wright said: “The manager and his coaching staff have belief in us.

“This is what makes them understandably angry when we fail to perform away from home.

“We have got to get that belief ourselves.

“We know we are good enough to compete successfully in this league, but we have got to start showing the same belief away from home that we do at Portman Road.”

Ishmael Miller, on loan from Manchester City, gave Tony Mowbray's Albion a 20th minute lead, and after Town dominated the second period they capitulated in the final few minutes to concede three bad goals.

Wright had no excuses adding: “In the first half we kept giving the ball away. In the second half we were better - I don't know why - and created chances.

“But we failed to put any of them away, and then proceeded to give away three bad goals at the end.

“West Brom are a good side, who will punish you if you are off the mark. And this is what they did.

“We have no one else to blame but ourselves for the goals.

“It is now a case of working hard on the training ground as we are a more than capable side.

“The management believes in us. We must learn to believe in ourselves when we travel away.”

With Leicester 're-playing' their Carling Cup game against Nottingham Forest tomorrow Town have no midweek game, which means they will slip further down the table.

And after the home evening game with Coventry on Saturday two further away matches - at Hull and Burnley - could see Magilton's side cut adrift from the top group.
