COLCHESTER United boss Paul Lambert felt that his side should have beaten leaders Leicester City.

In the end, the U's had to make do with a draw after Mark Yeates' first-half free-kick was cancelled out by substitute Paul Dickov's 67th minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

“Today's performance was as good as I've seen since I've been here,” enthused Lambert.

“We should have had at least three goals today. Clive Platt's header could have gone in, and Mark Yeates had a great chance.

“It's easy to come somewhere like this, to a great stadium, and play so well, but we must do this every week.

“I thought Neal Trotman (Preston loanee) was excellent on his debut. In fact, that was just about the best debut I have seen. Neal is a centre-half who will head a kitchen sink if it comes into the box!

“Give me a million pounds and I will sign him. But I guess we have just got him for eight or so matches.

“I thought we were exceptional,” added Lambert
