COLCHESTER United boss John Ward admitted that has side had “not been good enough,” following today’s dreadfully disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Swindon Town in the FA Cup.

The U’s were knocked out in the second round by impressive Swindon, undone by Matt Ritche’s quality finish in the 59th minute.

It was no more than Paolo Di Canio’s League Two side deserved, for a dominant display.

The U’s have now lost three matches on the bounce, to put the pressure on Ward, following the previous league defeats to MK Dons and Carlisle.

There was a chorus of boos at the end of today’s game, with also the odd chant of “Ward out” during the latter stages.

“We have not been good enough in each of the last three games which we had highlighted,” confessed Ward.

“We are very disappointed. I’m trying to support the players and lift them back up again.

“I can understand the fans’ frustrations. No one is more frustrated than myself. But I can’t stand there and boo the players I select and work with.

“I have got to try and work with them during the week and see if we can put on a better performance for the fans,” added Ward. The U’s entertain Bury next weekend.
