COLCHESTER United defender Matt Heath is not prepared to “throw the towel in,” despite the U’s having already lost to each of the top five clubs in League One.

Heath headed the U’s in front, with his second goal of the season, before visiting MK Dons stormed to a 5-1 win at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on Saturday.

The U’s have also finished second best, at the hands of Charlton, Huddersfield, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday this season, leaving the U’s in 14th spot.

However Heath, who was man-of-the-match against the Dons, remains optimistic that United can mount a challenge for the top six during the second half of the campaign.

“We know that we are a good team, and we do want to be pushing for a play-off spot this year,” insisted Heath.

“The teams that have beaten us are in the top five, and we are definitely not going to throw the towel in this early, or anything stupid like that. We are still only in November!”

“We are all bitterly disappointed with how it panned out in the end. I thought we were the better team for the first half-hour, playing some bright football.

“I don’t believe this game was a 5-1 scoreline really. They just took their chances very well, and when they went 3-1 up, I think a few of our heads dropped a little bit. We tried to keep going, but it just didn’t happen.

“To lose by five at home is going to hurt us all. We have to brush ourselves down. It was deflating by the end, but the scoreline flattered them,” added Heath.
