COLCHESTER United boss Geraint Williams was fuming after watching his side blow a one-goal lead on their way to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Bristol City.

Clive Platt's first goal of 2008, in the 50th minute, was quickly wiped out by a header from Dele Adebola (52) and a deflected shot from Michael McIndoe (58).

Williams blasted: “I'm very, very annoyed. In fact, that's the most I've annoyed I've been at this club for a very long time.

“We had worked so hard in the first-half, and then got ourselves in front. I couldn't see Bristol City scoring.

“But we seemed to freeze after scoring the goal. We had said at half-time that we should keep going forward, rather than passing square and backwards, but that's just what we did.

“A square pass led to their first goal, and we then turned our backs on a free-kick for the second. It took a deflection, but for that 15-minute spell we didn't deserve any luck.

“We got injuries (dislocated elbow to John White and concussion to Chris Coyne), but I'm not making any excuses, because we had the players capable of coming in and doing a job.

“We stopped being positive, and basically shot ourselves in the foot. You can't expect to do that in the second-half and get away with it.

“We gave them two great big helping hands, by gifting them two goals. That's three points that we've thrown away,” added a dejected Williams.
