SWINDON'S win at Wolverhampton and Lakeside's success at Belle Vue last night relegated Ipswich Evening Star Witches to third place in the Sky Sports Elite League table.

The Witches have held top spot since winning their seventh successive speedway meeting against the Aces from Belle Vue last Thursday week.

That was Ipswich's last meeting, and they have a gap until next Monday until they take to the track again - when fourth-placed Poole visit Foxhall Stadium in a cruncher that is being televised live.

Ipswich find themselves two points behind Swindon, but they have two meetings in hand and also the strong possibility that an ACU tribunal on June 23 will erase the Robins' 50-43 victory at Foxhall earlier this season.

This is because they used Joel Parsons as a guest when his average was too high. He scored seven points and if the match is amended to become a draw then Ipswich would gain one point and Swindon lose two.

Lakeside, now hitting form after a quiet opening to the season, are one point ahead of Ipswich having ridden the same number of meetings - 13.

Swindon are top with 22 points from 15 starts and they can stretch their lead when they entertain bottom-placed Peterborough on Thursday. Lakeside are at home to Wolves on Friday.
