Sunderland boss Steve Bruce insists that new signing Benjani Mwaruwari has not been signed as a replacement for Kenwyne Jones.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce insists that new signing Benjani Mwaruwari has not been signed as a replacement for Kenwyne Jones.

Jones was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool during the January transfer window and Bruce revealed his anger at the Anfield club's pursuit of the striker.

But Bruce said that the signing of Benjani is “just another option” for him to ponder over who partners star striker Darren Bent and does not pave the way for Jones to leave the Stadium of Light.
