An Ipswich-based dance house has got thousands of festival-goers swinging and popping throughout the Latitude weekend.

For the sixth year running, DanceEast hosted taster dance classes, from hip-hip to Egyptian belly dancing, at Pandora’s Playground.

Jane Langston, community and events producer at DanceEast, said: “We love performing but in this festival environment we want to encourage everyone to join in and have some fun and be part of our love of dancing.”

The hour-long workshops are designed to cater for people of all ages and abilities, and Alison Hartley, creative team co-ordinator of the performance, said the classes had encouraged a number of people to sign-up for lessons outside of the festival.

“We had a wonderful group of [people dressed like] unicorns in our contemporary class yesterday,” Miss Hartley added.

“They had never done it before and they had a ball.

“Everyone can get up and dance and you see people looking nervous at the start but then they get into it and have a great time.”

The team held five classes a day, starting with the early risers at 10.30am and ending with a ‘Dance House Party’ at 5pm, which featured classic dance hits to get revellers ready for the night-time events.
