Paintings by East Anglian artist Edward Seago will be on display in Bury St Edmunds ahead of their sale in London.
Bonhams is hosting an exhibition of paintings by Seago at its office in Churchgate Street this Friday, Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 4pm.
The collection includes “exceptional” examples of Seago’s East Anglian landscapes such as ‘Low tide, Blakeney’ estimated at £30,000-50,000 and ‘Spritsail barge on the River Orwell’ estimated at £25,000-35,000.
Also included in the group is one of the most sought after Seago subjects, a Hong Kong harbour view estimated at £40,000-60,000.
The paintings will be auctioned at Bonhams’ London saleroom on New Bond Street in a sale of British Impressionist Art on June 23.
Daniel Wright, Bonhams’ picture specialist at Bury St Edmunds, said: “Edward Seago is surely one of East Anglia’s finest artists, following in the artistic tradition forged by Gainsborough, Constable and Munnings.
“We’ve taken this opportunity to return the paintings to the artist’s old stomping ground so that people in the area have the chance to see them prior to their sale in London later in the month.”
They will hang alongside selected highlights from Bonhams’ forthcoming sale of East Anglian Art in November, including works by Alfred Munnings, Harry Becker, John Nash and Campbell Mellon.
A dedicated painting valuation day will be held in the Bury office on Friday to coincide with the exhibition when Mr Wright will hope to uncover further local masterpieces.
