ONE of the largest car parks in Ipswich has been closed down for about six weeks – as the town prepares itself for an invasion of Dr Who’s alien foes.
Work has started to create the temporary theatre for the Crash of the Elysium which is due to come down in the Crown Car Park next month.
The Crash of the Elysium starts on June 15 and runs until July 9. Presented by Punchdrunk Theatre, it went down a storm in Manchester last year and is being brought to Ipswich as part of the Cultural Olympiad.
Work on creating the set for the show began after the weekend, and the park is due to re-open for cars shortly after the run finishes.
A spokesman for the borough said: “We are losing some of our car parking spaces, but there are plenty of other places to park in Ipswich and this will be a fantastic experience which has really captured the imaginanation of the public in the town.”
