MADE in Dagenham, the true story of female Ford workers battling to secure equal pay in 1960’s Essex, is Richard Bryson’s pick of this week’s DVDs.

Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, Made in Dagenham is based on a true story about a group of female Ford factory workers who went on strike in order to get the same pay as their male counterparts.
Although far from the Swinging Sixties of Carnaby Street, the film captures the sounds and sights of an optimistic era so that although the women have a fight on their hands to be recognised you know they will emerge triumphant.
The likes of Bob Hoskins and Kenneth Cranham offer solid support but it’s Sally Hawkins, Rosamund Pike and Miranda Richardson who are mainly in the spotlight and carry this feel-good film (made by the director of Calendar Girls) through to its happy ending.
