A new giant artwork in Colchester was unveiled by the Mayor Gerard Oxford on Saturday at Alderwood care home.
The artwork, by artist Sylvia Paul, has been put together by Alderwood residents and measures 4.5sqm. The background is made up of a collage of cuttings from magazines and old music sheets and the artwork is bordered at both ends by giant piano keyboards.
The artwork, called Musical Memories, was commissioned as part of a Music and Movement initiative the home is implementing, which aims to bring the benefits of music to residents. They have been given £1,000 by the care home group for the project.
Nikki Leaney, manager, said: “We have chosen music as our theme as it is so engaging. It is about reaching everybody in the home, regardless of ability. We have used our £1,000 to invest in a wonderful mobile unit that houses a TV, a music keyboard, headphones and a tablet.”
