ALIEN comedy Paul, starring Shaun of the Dead creators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, is Richard Bryson’s pick of the dvds out this week.
DVD of the week: Paul (Universal, �14.99)
Perhaps a little self-indulgent, and not as funny as Hot Fuzz, but Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s sci-fi comedy is still better than most new releases this month.
Pegg and Frost play a couple of British sci-fi fans travelling around the US in a rented Winnebago, taking in the sacred sights of rumoured UFO incursions and cover-ups.
When they encounter an alien (voiced by Seth Rogen) who has escaped from a security base the film switches into ‘ET on a road trip’ enabling the likeable Brit comics to get away with the kind of gags that would be off limits for Speilberg’s unearthly, but child-friendly, creation.
