Daleks and Cybermen, Timelords and Tardises were all to be found at Moyse’s Hall Museum in Bury St Edmunds at the weekend.

The sci-fi spectacular was the launch of Dr Who week, an exhibition of paraphernalia linked to the popular TV show that runs for the duration of the school half-term holiday.

Alongside the costume characters, Dr Who outfits and monster masks, a number of special guests ensured the day was one to remember. They included television personality Peter Purves, who started his career as The Doctor’s first ever assistant. David Tennant lookalike Nigel Sumner was also on hand to welcome visitors.

The exhibition has been organised by St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s Heritage Service and made possible by local Dr Who collectors and fans who have loaned their memorabilia for the week.

And according to the museum’s visitor services manager, Lance Alexander, the collection represents an important part of British TV history. He said: “Dr Who is an institution that has been going now for almost 50 years. What’s great about the show is that it crosses generations. Adults will have grown up with their favourite Doctor and so have the children.”

The exhibition runs until Sunday, November 4, is open every day this week from 10am to 5pm.
