A park in Essex was transformed into a canine extravanganza this weekend as Bark in the Park came to town.

Families and their four-legged friends headed to a sun-soaked Lower Castle Park in Colchester today for the event, which saw man’s best friend displayed in all their glory.

The event, led by Colchester Borough Council’s animal control team had a number of goings on for dogs, with charities, dog behavourists and canine caterers and retailers offering advice and support for new, old and prospective owners.

Star attraction K9 Aqua Sports wowed crowds with a competition to find the dog that can jump the furthest into a 40ft pool of water, while there were also number of more traditional show categories for both canine and their owner, including best young handler, smiliest staffy, most gorgeous rescue, calmest tail as well as overall best in show.

There were also displays from the Essex Dog Display Team, The East Anglian Staffordshire Bull Terrier display team and Totally Terriers.
