SPAIN coach Vicente Del Bosque is hoping to use Tuesday’s final World Cup warm-up match against Poland to assess the fitness of Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.

Torres is the only member of Del Bosque’s 23-man squad not to have played any part in the two friendly wins over Saudi Arabia and South Korea as he continues his recovery from the knee operation he underwent in April.

Whether Torres plays any part against Poland or not, Del Bosque remains optimistic the 26-year-old will be ready for Spain’s opening World Cup match against Switzerland on June 16.

“We have good feelings. I hope that he can play a bit on Tuesday against Poland in order to head into the final stages of preparation in the best condition,” said Del Bosque.

“It’s not something that has surprised us because we knew beforehand that we would have this situation with Fernando, but I have faith he will be fine for the World Cup.”
