Liverpool and Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has been handed a four-month ban from all football and has been suspended for his country’s next nine World Cup matches.
The striker was caught on camera biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during his team’s 1-0 victory in Natal on Tuesday, having scored twice earlier in the tournament to put a major dent in England’s progress, Uruguay winning 2-1.
The 27-year-old, who has been linked with summer moves to Barcelona and Real Madrid, will now not be permitted to play football again until the end of October.
Uruguay finished second in Group D but will be without their talisman for their second round game against Colombia on Saturday night.
The striker has also been fined one-hundred thousand Swiss Francs.
