After his goalscoring debut on Friday, Connor Wickham had to be content with coming off the bench for England Under 19s in their match against Cyprus.

IPSWICH Town’s Connor Wickham has made his second appearance for England Under 19s as a 76th minute substitute in the 4-0 win against Cyprus. England manager Noel Blake rung the changes after his side’s 6-1 win against Albania and Wickham, who scored in Friday’s rout, had to settle for a place on the bench with Arsenal’s Benik Ofobe preferred instead.

Ofobe, who partnered Wickham in the Under 17s victorious European Championship campaign in the summer, underlined his own potential with a hat-trick before making way for the Town youngster with England four goals to the good - skipper Jonjo Shelvey adding to Ofobe’s trio.

The two big victories means England have comfortably qualified for next year’s UEFA European Championship Elite Round and Wickham will now be hoping for more game-time when the group matches are completed with a match against Belgium on Wednesday.
