A weekend-long celebration of local food – with the emphasis on shellfish – is under way in a riverside Suffolk town.
The Woodbridge Shuck Shellfish Festival was launched by mayor Josh Sayles at the historic Tide Mill yesterday.
The festival opened with a Shuck Shack pop-up restaurant yesterday evening. The Shuck Shack returns to the Tide Mill tonight, catered by Stephen David’s Bespoke Events team.
Choose Woodbridge’s ‘What’s Tasty’ event is back tomorrow, with food including Simpers of Suffolk oysters, mussels and crab available at Market Hill.
‘Seafood Sunday’ features food from local restaurateurs and live music hosted by the Tea Hut’s Sharon and Brian Wolff, plus an oyster-shucking contest with local chefs.
The evening’s Safari Supper visits The Crown, The Table and The Riverside, while other pubs and restaurants will offer festival specials.
Chris Harrold, Chairman of Choose Woodbridge, said: “We’re very fond of the Shuck Festival because it celebrates Woodbridge’s history, heritage and amazing produce.”
