Nine new flats could be built at a vacant building opposite The Jockey Club in Newmarket providing more town centre homes.

Amended proposals have been submitted to West Suffolk Council which seek permission for the conversion and extension of 122 High Street.

The plans detail the retention of the ground floor retail unit with external alterations to the existing shop front, which faces Newmarket hotel The Jockey Club Rooms.

A previous application of a similar description was granted by West Suffolk Council in August 2019.

The main differences highlighted within these amended proposals include the development of a three-storey extension above the existing ground floor element at the rear of the building and reconfiguration of internal spaces. 

The planning statement adds that the development will deliver "many clear and substantial benefits," such as the efficient reuse of a brownfield site and enhancing the social and economic vitality of the High Street."
