Suffolk’s Greyhound Trust is calling for volunteers to adopt retired racing dogs.

The charity said it is now “in a race against time in the midst of the cost-of-living crisis” for the dogs waiting for their forever homes.

Greyhound Trust is appealing to the dog-loving public for help in those difficult times.

“These dogs deserve to live their lives as family pets and loving companions, but as a charity, our opportunity to fundraise the money we desperately need has been disappearing quickly,” the charity’s spokesperson said.

One of the trust’s greyhounds, Stevie, has recently found his forever home.

Greyhound Trust is the only national charity dedicated to homing retired racing greyhounds when their racing days are over.

With many thousands of greyhounds leaving racing every year, the need for trust’s work is constant.

Greyhound Trust has homed more than 100,000 greyhounds in its 45-year history.

Lisa Morris, the trust’s CEO, said: “We need to shout louder about the fact that we need people to help us now, as we are not a household name.

“We are, however, a long-established, well-governed charity, homing many thousands of greyhounds every year— a number our founders would be proud of.”

The Greyhound Trust has homed dogs to, among others, the English tenor Russell Watson, British novelist J K Rowling, and Paul Hudson the BBC weather reporter.

The trust is now in the middle of “the cost-of-living crisis storm” and finding new homes for the dogs would be very helpful for them.

They also ask for small donations to help take care of the greyhounds. To help, visit Suffolk’s Greyhound Trust website.

The spokesperson added: “If you can find it in your heart to donate, foster, or even home a loving greyhound, you’d be doing a heroic thing for these gentle souls who are patiently waiting to find their family.”
