Three teens who helped a man who had taken a fall in a Needham Market park were treated to an evening watching the speedway in Ipswich.

Robin Kett, 71, was walking his dog in Crowley Park when he fell and broke his leg in the evening of Saturday, March 11.

Three Stowupland High School students, Oliver O'Neill, 15, Charley Bridges, 15, and Alfie Hunt, 16, were playing football nearby when they heard his calls for help.

They came to his aid and called an ambulance, but with the hour-long expected wait time, they helped carry Mr Kett into his car to be taken to the hospital.

Mr Kett spent five days in the hospital being treated and decided he wanted to organise a special trip for the boys to thank them.

Mr Kett, and the teens with their families, all went to Foxhall Stadium in Ipswich to watch the Ipswich Witches speedway team.

This was the first taste of speedway for the three boys, who, along with Mr Kett, who has been watching speedway in Ipswich for the past 40 years, were given a special guest experience.

Mr Kett said: "We had a really good time.

"The lads enjoyed it, they were told all about the bikes, how they work, they met some riders and we had some pictures taken.

"We went onto the green in the middle of the track and watched the parade and the practice lap and it all took an hour and a bit to do all that so Ipswich Witches were amazing."

The boys even had a special call-out over the tannoy to explain to everyone at the stadium who they were and what they had done.

Mr Kett added: "If it wasn't for them, I don't know what I would have done.

"I wanted to reward the three lads because they're such nice guys.

"You hear a lot of bad things about young lads, but these guys have done themselves proud and I can't thank them enough."

Oliver O'Neill, one of the teens, said: "It was a really good first experience of speedway.

"Got to meet some of the riders and team leaders and overall, it was really good and nice of Robin to invite us along."
