A Suffolk woman driving along the A12 faced a scene similar to a horror movie when sheets of plywood flew off the back of a truck and smashed into her car.

Last Friday, Tanya Dunn, 53, was driving on the A12 in Yoxford on her way to pick up her son from school.

While she was travelling northbound at about 5pm, she noticed a flatbed truck on the other side of the road carrying sheets of plywood.

Suddenly, a gust of wind lifted the planks from the back of the truck and threw them across the opposite side of the road - straight into Mrs Dunn's car's path.

"I just saw seven or eight huge planks of wood coming at me and I had no idea what to do," she said.

"I was truly in the wrong place at the wrong time. There's just a one in a million chance that it would happen like that."

Though the planks scattered across the road, bringing traffic to a screeching halt, Mrs Dunn said she was "very lucky" to escape with only a few chips in her car's windscreen and a hole through the front bumper.

"There could have been fatalities. It could have resulted in a pile-up," she added.

"I could have died. I'm so glad my son wasn't in the car with me."

Pulling over to examine the damage, Mrs Dunn said that, while two kind women stayed with her to check on her condition, the truck in question didn't stop.

She added: "It's so irresponsible. I had to drive the car home afterwards and I'm still building my confidence back up."
