Traffic was brought to a standstill after a crash involving a car and a lorry on the A12.
Officers were called to the collision on the northbound carriageway, heading towards Suffolk in Essex, at about 3.10pm on Tuesday.
The crash happened within the roadworks between Marks Tey and Colchester.
According to National Highways, there was nearly five miles of congestion on approach to the collision.
A woman and child were taken to hospital following a crash on the A12 on Monday, August 7.
