A further home could be built on the site of a former pub if new plans put to a council are given the go ahead.

On October 17 applicant 20 Gainsborough Limited submitted plans to Babergh District Council for the construction of a new home on the site of the former Five Bells Inn in Great Cornard, near Sudbury.

Plans for four semi-detached bungalows on the land to the rear of the Bures Road pub, which closed in September 2021, were given the green light in October 2021, and proposals to convert the pub into three homes were approved in May this year.

Now, a plan to demolish a disused cart lodge and shed on the site to make way for a single-storey, two-bedroom home has been submitted to the council.

The home would have an open-plan kitchen and living area with a WC, bathroom, and two bedrooms, one with an en-suite.

A document submitted to the council said: "The proposed single-story dwelling will add much needed capacity for this type of dwelling to the local housing stock and complete the establishment of a new community on the site of the former pub."
