A serial abuser has admitted to breaching the terms of his court order after reoffending.

Adam Mayes, 30 and from Valley View in the village of Stanstead near Long Melford, has admitted breaching a rare Violent Offender Order (VOO).

In November 2023, police officers working to tackle domestic abuse secured the VOO for Mayes, who was also barred from contacting or being in the vicinity of a specific person.

Mayes was made the subject of the order after being convicted of seriously injuring a woman.

He served part of his prison term for that offence and then breached his licence conditions and was returned to prison before being subsequently released.

On Wednesday, January 24, officers were alerted to an ongoing emergency call involving Mayes.

Police quickly attended the scene and arrested Mayes on suspicion of breaching his VOO, and later charged with the offence.

He admitted the breach at Chelmsford Crown Court on Thursday, January 25, and will reappear for a hearing on Thursday, February 22.

Due to the very serious threat he poses to the public, Mayes is managed by the highest level multi-agency public protection agreement.

Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Hutchinson, who leads the domestic abuse teams in north Essex, said: "Adam Mayes is a serial abuser and he is serially violent.

"The interim VOO which we secured last year means we have been able to pursue him for a breach, which carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.

"Our domestic abuse teams work tirelessly to protect people at risk of harm from people like Mayes; people who have continually shown they are unable to change, or have no interest in changing, their behaviour.

"This conviction is the result of determined work from a number of teams across the force,"
