An outbuilding fire that caused dangerous black smoke to cover a Suffolk town is being treated as suspected and suspicious arson. 

Crews were called to the fire in Fornham St Martin, near Bury St Edmunds, at around 9.35am on Sunday, January 28. 

Multiple stables and outbuildings were on fire with a shed containing tyres causing black smoke to bellow into the sky.

The incident happened on a patch of land behind the Jardine Mini and BMW dealership and police closed the nearby B1106 Thetford Road. 

Homes in the area suffered power cuts as a result of the fire. 

A spokesman for Suffolk police confirmed the incident is being treated as suspected and suspicious arson.
