The manager of a village café that closed its doors for the final time at the weekend has said her dreams have been "shattered".

The Box River Café in Broad Street in Boxford, between Sudbury and Hadleigh, closed on Saturday, March 30.

On Thursday, manager Cally Brooks said the closure has left her "gutted" and "heartbroken".

Ms Brooks said: "I made it the centre of the village, a community hub. For some of the people in Boxford, it was their only place to go.

"They could come out and chat with me and my staff and we checked in on them.

"I always had amazing praise for our customer service, smile and friendly attitude and the quality of food topped it off.

"As much as my dream has been shattered I also hope it will stay a café for the village."

"I am truly gutted to have to close. We tried to find a way to stay.

"I am proud of what I turned the café into. I have made so many friends and will miss all of my customers."

The Box River Café at Boxford served everything from breakfast dishes to salads and paninis, alongside cakes, cookies, coffees and other hot drinks.

The eatery offered options to sit in or takeaway and was rated 4.8 stars out of five on Google reviews.
