An artist has achieved one of her dreams after opening her first high street shop and studio.

Carla Davey set up Kitty Makes six years ago as a hobby before she was made redundant from her job at Topshop during the Covid pandemic.

As a lover of illustrations, she started by selling drawings for children.

"The pandemic was the best thing to happen to me as suddenly everyone was shopping online," said Ms Davey.

Following success through expanding her collection to include homeware, tote bags and wall flags, at the end of last year Ms Davey decided the next step would be to open a shop.

The Kitty Makes Studio opened in High Baxter Street, Bury St Edmunds, on Saturday, March 9.

"There was a big buzz around it on social media," said Ms Davey.

"The opening of the studio was the best day ever and none of it would have been possible without the help of my family."

Future plans for the shop include hosting creative workshops and expanding into wholesale.

Kitty Makes Studio is open Wednesday through to Saturday from 10am.
