An investigation is set to take place after a train derailment caused extensive damage after coming off the track near the Port of Felixstowe.

A freight service at the north terminal of the Port of Felixstowe derailed on Tuesday, June 18.

A source close to the port says it is understood "an investigation into the incident will be carried out".

This comes after Port of Felixstowe confirmed the incident earlier in the week.

The spokesman said earlier this week: “A freight train operated by GBRf suffered a derailment on the Trimley Branch Line at approximately 9.20pm on Tuesday.

"We are working with GBRf and Network Rail to return services to normal as soon as possible.”

Greater Anglia also confirmed their services were affected for a small period of time, but the delays were kept to a minimum as the damage was contained within the port.
