Kayden Jackson was disappointed to see Ipswich Town knocked out of the Carabao Cup, although he admitted that they were beaten by the better side in their 3-1 defeat at home to Fulham.

The Cottagers ran out as comfortable winners at Portman Road, with Harry Wilson, Rodrigo Muniz and Tom Cairney all on the scoresheet.

Elkan Baggott found the back of the net late on, scoring his first senior goal for the Blues, but it proved to be no more than a consolation.

“It was a tough game against a very good Premier League side,” Jackson said after the match.

“We’ve had some good moments in the cup this season, the Wolves game obviously being the standout one, and we were hoping for something similar tonight, but I think they were just a level above what we’ve faced.

“Although we gave a good account of ourselves, it was a tough game against a very good team.”

Manager Kieran McKenna showed that the Championship is the priority for Ipswich by making 11 changes to the team, having taken the same approach against Bristol Rovers, Reading and Fulham in the earlier rounds of the competition.

However, there's no doubt that they looked disjointed and somewhat lethargic against Fulham, which Jackson believes is always a risk when bringing in players who haven't had much time on the pitch so far this season.

“It’s always going to be tough when you make so many changes and lads come into the team that haven’t had a lot of minutes," he explained.

“You look at Sone (Aluko) coming into the team tonight, albeit a top player, the lack of minutes has probably accounted for not being able to get that final pass off.

“There were a few opportunities that we had, especially on the re-gains. A couple of them, we were perhaps too eager to get in.

“It’s a good test for us, especially with the aspirations that the club has. That’s where want to get to.

“I think everyone at the club will be better for the game tonight.”
